PEN members in Hasenkeyf
Photograph of members from PEN International and the Kurdish and Turkish Centres gathered in the ancient town of Hasenkeyf, Turkey, in March 2005. The three delegates standing at the very front and centre of the group are (from left to right): Joanne Leedom-Ackerman, international secretary (2004-07) and vice-president emeritus of PEN International; Jane Spender, programme director at PEN International (1997-2009) and editor of PEN International magazine; and Carles Torner, executive director of PEN International (2014-20) and chair of the Translation and Linguistic Rights Committee (1996-2002). This PEN delegation visted Turkey for the International PEN Diyarbakir Seminar on Cultural Diversity, which was held on 20-25 March 2005 in Diyarbakir-Amed – bringing Turkish and Kurdish writers together for a conference that was hosted by PEN International’s Translation and Linguistic Rights Committee.
