PEN, ICORN, and Eaten Fish

Ali Dorani, an Iranian refugee, was given the alias ‘Eaten Fish’ after the boat carrying him to Australia sank. He was locked up in the immigration detention centre at Manus Island, in Papua New Guinea as part of Australia’s ‘deterrence’ policy, where he suffered persecution. PEN International and ICORN, after a period of campaigning on his behalf, were able to relocate Ali Dorani to Stavanger, Norway, in 2018. Stavanger is among the funders of ICORN, and Ali Dorani is the 11th refugee writer to be welcomed into the city.
