The Eli Langer case

Folder of documents concerning the Eli Langer case dated between 1993 and 1995, ff. 24. In 1993 the Canadian artist Eli Langer held an exhibition at the Mercer Union gallery in Toronto. The show coincided with the addition of section 163.1 (the “Child Pornography” section) to the Canadian Criminal Code, and Langer’s work, which addressed issues of childhood sexuality, was seized by the police whilst both Langer himself and the Mercer gallery’s director were arrested. The Canadian Centre, alongside other PEN Centres and well-known figures of the Canadian art community, supported Langer’s case. En 1993, l'artiste canadien Eli Langer présentait une exposition à la gallerie d'art Mercer Union, à Toronto. Una carpeta de documentos referentes al caso de Eli Langer datados entre 1993 y 1995, ff. 24. En 1993, el artista canadiense Eli Langer expuso su obra en la galeria Mercer Union en Toronto. La exposición coincidió con el momento en que se añadió la sección 163.1 (la sección de «Pornografía Infantil») en el código penal canadiense. La obra de Langer, que trataba sobre problemas de sexualidad infantil, fue incautada por la policía, mientras que Langer y el director de la galeria Mercer fueron arrestados.
