Photograph of the Egyptian feminist, novelist, psychiatrist and activist Nawal El Saadawi (Nawāl Saʻdāwī). El Saadawi was the first human rights case to be taken up by the Women Writers Committee after she was imprisoned in September 1981 on charges of committing “crimes against the state”.
