PEN members at human rights conference

Photograph of Paraguayan Centre members gathered for a conference titled Por la Libertad de Expresión y los Derechos Humanos, which took place in Asunción on 2 November 2017 and was held as part of PEN International’s Day of the Dead Campaign – an inititative that was launched on 2 November 2011 as a means of annually commemorating writers and journalists who have been murdered, or who have disappeared, as a result of their work. Among them are: Víctor-Jacinto Flecha, second from the left, vice-president of the Paraguayan Centre (2017-); Nelson Aguilera, fifth from the left, member of the Centre’s Board; and Emi Kasamatsu, fourth from the right, president of the Paraguayan Centre (2007-12; 2017-19). This event, which was the first of this kind held by the Paraguayan Centre, featured talks by well-known journalists, poets and radio hosts, and was widely reported upon in the Paraguayan press.

Fotografía de miembros del Centro Paraguayo reunidos en una conferencia titulada Por la Libertad de Expresión y los Derechos Humanos, en Asunción, el 2 de noviembre de 2017, celebrada en el marco de la campaña del Día de los Muertos de PEN Internacional; una inciativa empezada el 2 de noviembre de 2011 para recordar anualmente alos escritores y periodistas asesinados o desaparecidos, por haber ejercido su trabajo. Entre ellos: Víctor-Jacinto Flecha, segundo empezando por la izquierda, vicepresidente del Centro Paraguayo (2017-); Nelson Aguilera, quinto empezando por la izquierda, miembro de la junta del Centro; y Emi Kasamatsu, cuarta empezando por la derecha, presidenta del Centro Paraguayo (2007-12; 2017-19). El evento, el primero de esta clase celebrado por el Centro Paraguayo, contó con charlas de periodistas, poetas y presentadores de radio de renombre, y tuvo un gran impacto en la prensa paraguaya.
