Video of events held by the San Miguel de Allende Centre for Día de los Muertos in San Miguel de Allende on 1-2 November 2018. In this video Judyth Hill, president of the San Miguel de Allende Centre, and Lucina Kathmann, vice-president emerita and treasurer of the San Miguel de Allende Centre, vice-president emerita of PEN International (2003-) and chair of PEN International’s Women Writers Committee (1996-2003), speak about the activities co-ordinated by the San Miguel de Allende Centre to commemorate murdered journalists on Día de los Muertos to coincide with PEN International’s Day of the Dead Campaign – an inititative that was launched on 2 November 2011 as a means of annually commemorating writers and journalists who have been murdered, or who have disappeared, as a result of their work. The filmed appeals from both members take place before an ofrenda created by Juani Onstott, and the video culminates in a series of slides commemorating Mexican journalists who were killed in 2018.
