Portrait of Catharine Amy Dawson Scott, founder of PEN International. Dawson-Scott founded PEN in London in October 1921, enlisting a group of fellow writers to join her in creating the first London club where writers of both sexes could meet. This portrait was donated to PEN International by Marjorie-Ann Watts, Dawson Scott’s granddaughter, in 2003. The photograph of this portrait was taken by Ginevra Avalle, Archives Collection Manager at PEN International (2018-21).
