Photograph of PEN members at a letter-writing session organised by the Swedish Centre for PEN International’s Day of the Imprisoned writer on 15 November 2011. Among them is Eugene Schoulgin, second from the right, member of the Norwegian and Swedish Centres, president of the Writers in Prison Committee (2000-04), international secretary (2007-10) and vice-president of PEN International (2004-). PEN started the annually observed Day of the Imprisoned Writer in 1981, marking 15 November as a day on which writers, readers and PEN members around the world come together to stand in solidarity with writers in prison and at risk.
