Fushman, Katharine. “Ma Thida of Burma, Novelist and Doctor, is Jailed for ‘Unlawful Literature’,” PEN Newsletter, no. 23 (15 March 1999): 3, describing the work and the emprisonment of Ma Thida, founding member and president of the Myanmar Centre (2013-16), and PEN International Board member (2016-), who was incarcerated in October 1993 in Myanmar. She was accused of “endangering public peace, having contact with illegal organisations and distributing unlawful literature”. Ma Thida was released in 1999.

Elle était accusée d'avoir «menacé la paix publique, d'avoir été en contact avec des organisations illégales, et d'avoir distribué de la littérature illicite». Ma Thida a recouvert la liberté en 1999.
