An invitation to Writer’s Block

Invitation to a literary event organised by the American Centre that celebrated the opening of an art installation titled Writer’s Block, which was created by American artist Sheryl Oring in 1999. Originally displayed at Bebelplatz in Germany, the site of Nazi book-burnings, this sculpture, which represents freedom of expression and the fight against censorship, was shown in Bryant Park in New York from 27 September to 12 October 2003. To celebrate its arrival the American Centre, in collaboration with the National Coalition Against Censorship and the American Booksellers Foundation for Freedom of Expression, hosted this poetry recital on 30 September 2003, at which several writers read excerpts and gave speeches, including: Russel Banks, Frances FitzGerald, Margo Jefferson, Jamaica Kincaid, Rick Moody, Elizabeth Nunez, Grace Paley, and Arthur Miller, president of PEN International (1965-69).

Invitation à un événement littéraire organisé par le Centre américain qui célébrait l'ouverture de l'installation artistique Writer's Block, créée par l'artiste américaine Sheryl Oring en 1999. Originellement exposée à Bebelplatz, en Allemagne, site d'autodafés nazis, cette sculpture, qui représente la liberté d'expression et la lutte contre la censure, a été présentée au Bryant Park de New York, du 27 septembre au 12 octobre 2003. Afin de célébrer son arrivée, le Centre américain, en collaboration avec la National Coalition Against Censorship et la American Booksellers Foundation for Freedom of Expression, a organisé ce récital de poésie le 30 septembre 2003, lors duquel plusieurs écrivains ont lu des extraits et fait des allocutions, dont : Russel Banks, Frances FitzGerald, Margo Jefferson, Jamaica Kincaid, Rick Moody, Elizabeth Nunez, Grace Paley, et Arthur Miller, président du PEN International (1965-69).

Invitación a un evento literario organizado por el Centro Americano para innaugurar una instalación artística nombrada Writer's Block, creada por la artista estadounidense Sheryl Oring en 1999. Originalmente situada en Bebelplatz, Alemania, donde los nazis quemaron libros, la escultura representa la libertad de expresión y la lucha contra la censura. La obra se instaló en Bryant Park, Nueva York, del 27 de septiembre al 12 de octure de 2003. Para celebrar su llegada, el Centro Americano, en colaboración con el National Coalition Against Censorship y la American Booksellers Foundation for Freedom of Expression, organizó un recital de poesía el 30 de septiembre de 2003, en el que numerosos escritores leyeron textos literarios y dieron discursos, entre ellos: Russel Banks, Frances FitzGerald, Margo Jefferson, Jamaica Kincaid, Rick Moody, Elizabeth Nunez, Grace Paley y Arthur Miller, presidente de PEN Internacional (1956-69).
