Front cover of a report authored by Siobhan Dowd and presented at Writers in Prison Conference held in Barcelona on 16-21 May 2004, titled Antiterrorism, Writers and Freedom of Expression (seen here in its french language version: Antiterrorisme, écrivains et liberté d’éxpression). This report was created in 2003 in reaction to the use of anti-terror laws to repress journalists, newspapers, and journals during the wake of the ‘War on Terror’. The cover’s artwork is by the Catalan artist Antoni Tàpies, who inspired a tradition of Catalan artists henceforth designing works for the PEN International’s annually observed Day of the Imprisoned Writer.
