Speaker at the World Conference on Linguistic Rights

This conference was organised by PEN International’s Translation and Linguistic Rights Committee and Escarré International Center for Ethnic Minorities and Nations (CIEMEN), with support from UNESCO. It took place on 6-8 June 1996 at the Auditorium of the University of Barcelona. At this conference The Universal Declaration of Linguistic Rights was signed by representatives from 66 NGOs and 41 PEN Centres. The declaration’s main purpose is to promote the rights of those speaking minority languages.

Cette conférence fut organisée par le Comité de Traduction et Droits linguistiques de PEN International ainsi que par le Centre international Escarré pour les minorités ethniques et les nations (CIEMEN), avec le support de l'UNESCO. Cette conférence a eu lieu les 6-8 juin 1996 à l'auditorium de l'Université de Barcelone. Lors de l'événment, la Déclaration universelle sur les droits linguistiques a été signée par les représentants de 66 ONG et de 41 Centres PEN. L'objectif premier de cette déclaration est de promouvoir les droits des locuteurs de langues minoritaires.

Tuvo lugar del 6 al 8 de junio de 1996 en el auditorio de la Universidad de Barcelona. En esta conferencia se aprobó una declaración de los derechos lingüísticos, firmada por los representantes de 66 ONGs y 41 Centros PEN. El objeto principal de la declaración fue promover los derechos de los hablantes de lenguas minoritarias.
