Japanese Centre at 14^th PEN Congress

Photograph of Japanese Centre members seated with Argentininan Centre members at the 14^th PEN International Congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1936, which took place on 5-15 September. Carlos Ibarguren, former president of the Argentinian Centre, is sitting on the far left of the front row. The two men beside him (from left to right) are Arishima Ikuma, first vice-president of the Japanese Centre, and Tōson Shimazaki, founder and first president of the Japanese Centre. The Japanese Centre (then known as the Nippon Centre) was founded one year prior to the Congress, on 26 November 1935.
