Alexandre Blokh and Vladimir Stabnikov

Photograph of Alexandre Blokh, international secretary of PEN International (1981-98), on the left, and Vladimir Stabnikov, first director of the Russian Centre (1989-91), on the right. Blokh, who was born in Russia, played a key part in establishing the Russian Centre and wrote a letter to all the PEN secretaries informing them that the Centre had been offically welcomed into PEN International on 30 May 1989. This photograph was taken in Moscow in 2002.
