Tolstoy’s centenary

Photograph of a group of PEN members gathered before the Khadzhi Murat Stone, a memorial dedicated to Leo Tolstoy and inaugurated at this event, which took place on 8 November 2010 – one-hundred years since Tolstoy’s death. Among them are: Vladimir Tolstoy, eighth from the left (facing outwards towards the camera), the grandson of Leo Tolstoy, advisor to the President of Russia (2012-) and director of the Museum-estate of Leo Tolstoy; Andreĭ Bitov, to the right of Tolstoy (holding a cap), president of the Russian Centre (1991-2016); and Gennady Oparin, to the right of Bitov (wearing a black leather jacket) then Head of Department of the Museum-estate of Leo Tolstoy. This event was held near the grounds of Yasnaya Polyana in Pirogovo, the former home of Leo Tolstoy, which was turned into a writer’s museum in 1921.

Centenario de Tolstói

Fotografía de un grupo de miembros de PEN reunidos en el Khadzhi Murat Stone, un memorial dedicado a Leo Tolsói, inaugurado en aquella ocasión, el 8 de noviembre de 2010, marcando cien años de la muerte de Tolstói. Entre ellos: Vladímir Tolstói, octavo empezando por la izquierda (mirando hacia la cámara), nieto de Leo Tolstói, asesor del presidente de Rusia (2012-) y director de la Casa Museo de Leo Tolstói; Andreĭ Bitov, a la derercha de Tolstói (con una gorra), presidente del Centro Ruso (1991-2016); y Gennady Oparin, a la derecha de Bitov (con una chaqueta negra de cuero), entonces jefe de departamento de la Casa Museo de Leo Tolstói. Este evento fue celebrado cerca de Yasnaya Polyana, en Pirogovo, donde estuvo la casa de Leo Tolstói, que fue convertida en un museo sobre el escritor en 1921.
