Writers and PEN members in Hasenkeyf

Photograph of PEN members with Kurdish and Turkish writers gathered in the ancient town of Hasenkeyf, Turkey, in March 2005. Joanne Leedom-Ackerman, international secretary (2004-07) and vice-president emeritus of PEN International, can be seen standing at the front of the group wearing red; standing just behind her, to the right, is Zerdeşt Haco, president (1999-2013) and honorary president (2016-) of the Kurdish Centre. PEN delegates visted Turkey for the International PEN Diyarbakir Seminar on Cultural Diversity, which was held on 20-25 March 2005 in Diyarbakir-Amed – bringing Turkish and Kurdish writers together for a conference that was hosted by PEN International’s Translation and Linguistic Rights Committee.
