Video of Thomas Mann in Amsterdam in 1947. The German Nobel laureate Thomas Mann, who became the first president of the Centre of German-speaking Writers Abroad in 1934, was an outspoken critic of the Nazi party and lived in exile for much of the later part of his life – including in the Netherlands. In this video he can be seen giving a speech at a conference held in Amsterdam, during which he speaks about the “regenerative power” of The Netherlands following the damage it suffered during wartime, and champions the country’s potential to play an important role in the reunification of Europe. This video is held at Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid (The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision).

El premio Nobel de la Literatura Thomas Mann, primer presidente del Centro de Escritores Alemanes en el Extranjero desde 1934, fue un crítico declarado del partido nazi i vivió la última etapa de su vida en el exilio, en lugares como los Países Bajos. En este vídeo, se le puede ver dando un discurso en una conferencia celebrada en Amsterdam, en la que habla sobre el «poder regenerativo» de los Países Bajos después del daño causado por la segunda guerra mundial, y celebra el potencial del país de jugar un papel importante en la reunificación de Europa.
