This event, which was organised by the Mexican Centre in collaboration with PEN International, was held at Casa Lamm in Mexico City on 29 January 2012, and was staged as a public demonstration of solidarity and a demand for accountability for the murders and disappearances of Mexican journalists. It was part of a longer campaign held in January 2012, during which PEN delegates met with activists and authorities and pushed for governmental action to protect journalists and freedom of expression in Mexico. This photograph was taken by Marian Botsford Fraser, president of the Canadian Centre (1997-99) and chair of PEN International’s Writers in Prison Committee (2009-12).
