Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk

Photograph of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, first President of Czechoslovakia (1918-35), who was appointed an honorary member of PEN International in the 1920s. Masaryk met with Catharine Amy Dawson Scott, founder of PEN International, and Ada and John Galsworthy, founder and president of the English Centre (1921-32) and first president of PEN International (1921-33), when they visited the Czech Republic (then part of Czechoslovakia) in 1926.
