Photograph of Simona Škrabec, chair of the Translation and Linguistic Rights Committee (2014-20), signing the Donostia Protocol to Ensure Language Rights. The Donostia Protocol is a tool developed by organisations including PEN International, Linguapax, the European Language Equality Network (ELEN), CIEMEN, and the European Centre for Minority Issues, to protect minority languages. It was presented to the public at a summit held at the Kursaal Kongresu Jauregia in Donostia-San Sebastián on 17 December 2016, and on that day was signed by representatives from more than one hundred organisations representing approximately twenty-six languages. As well as Škrabec, the committee from PEN International also comprised Carles Torner, executive director of PEN International (2014-20) and chair of the Translation and Linguistic Rights Committee (1996-2002).
