Sara Whyatt

Photograph of Sara Whyatt, PEN International’s programme director (1990-2013), interim executive director (2010-11), and deputy director (2011-2013). Whyatt headed PEN International’s freedom of expression programme for over twenty years, during which time she became a specialist in the challenges faced by writers in Turkey. In 2014 she published a report titled Turkey: Free Expression Under A Shadow for the Norwegian Centre, and in 2018 authored the chapter on freedom of artistic expression for UNESCO’s Global Report on the Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
