Melbourne PEN was established in 1938. My intimate knowledge of what went on goes back as far as the time of Judah Waten who, with his wife Hyrrel, ran a very busy Melbourne PEN. Waten was president of the Melbourne Centre of PEN International in Australia in 1977–79.
