Following the establishment of PEN in London in 1921, Marjorie Watts, PEN’s first secretary and daughter of its founder, wrote to Lady Augusta Gregory in Dublin suggesting that she summon writers together to form a Centre in Ireland. This attempt to establish a PEN Centre in Ireland with Lady Gregory as president was not entirely successful.

Après la création du Centre PEN à Londres en 1921, Marjorie Watts, première secrétaire du PEN et fille de son fondateur, a écrit à Lady Augusta Gregory à Dublin pour lui suggérer de réunir des écrivains afin de former un Centre en Irlande. Cette tentative d’instaurer un Centre PEN irlandais, dont Lady Gregory serait la présidente, n’a pas été entièrement couronnée de succès.
