One day in December 1922, the Belgian writer and politician Louis Piérard, accompanied by his daughter, then about fifteen years old, visited John Galsworthy at his home in London. In his briefcase was a one-page typed document entitled ‘BELGIAN WRITERS’ CLUB’, and subtitled ‘STATUTES’.
