PEN Protesta! at Casa Lamm
Photograph of PEN delegates, Mexican literary figures, and musicians from La Banda de Tlayacapan gathered at Casa Lamm in Mexico City for PEN Protesta! In Support of Journalists and Freedom of Expression, which was organised by the Mexican Centre in collaboration with PEN International and held on 29 January 2012. This event was staged as a public display of solidarity and a demand for accountability for the murders and disappearances of journalists in Mexico, and was part of a longer campaign held in January 2012 during which PEN delegates met with activists and authorities to push for action to protect freedom of expression from the Mexican government. This photograph was taken by Marian Botsford Fraser, president of the Canadian Centre (1997-99) and chair of PEN International’s Writers in Prison Committee (2009-12).
