Photograph of panellists who spoke at conferences held in the cities of Ankara, Diyarbakir and Izmir, which were organised by PEN International’s Writers for Peace Committee under the leadership of Burhan Sönmez, Board member of PEN International (2018-) and member of the English, Kurdish and Turkish Centres. Among them are: Adnan Gerger, end on the left; Nurdane Özdemir Sağkan, third from the right; Yaşar Seyman, fourth from the right, who organised this particular event; Alper Akçam, fifth from the right; and Erendiz Atasü, sixth from the right. Ahmet İnam, who is not present in this photograph, was also a speaker. This photograph was taken at an event titled Barış ve Edebiyat (Peace and Literature) that was held at the Yılmaz Güney Sahnesi’nde (Yılmaz Güney Theatre) in Ankara on 21 September – International Day of Peace – in 2018. Sönmez was elected to the Writers for Peace Committee at the 84th PEN International Congress in Pune, India, which took place on 25-29 September 2018.
