Liu Xiaobo Poetry Reading

Video of a recital of the Dutch translation of Liu Xiaobo’s poem You Wait for Me with Dust, which was filmed by the Belgian Dutch-Speaking Centre in Antwerp in 2017. The Nobel Peace Prize winner, writer, and human rights activist Liu Xiaobo was the co-founder and president of the Independent Chinese Centre (2003-07). In 2008 Xiaobo was arrested and incarcarated as a political prisoner in Jinzhou Prison in Liaoning, where he spent the last eight years of his life. Xiaobo’s case was supported and campaigned for by PEN International alongside other human rights organisations and numerous global PEN Centres, including the Belgian Dutch-Speaking Centre.

En 2008, Xiaobo devenait un prisonnier politique en étant arrêté puis incarcéré à la Prison de Jinzhou, à Liaoning, où il a passé les dernières huit années de sa vie. Le cas de Xiaobo a fait l'objet d'actions de soutien et de campagnes à PEN International, en collaboration avec d'autres organisations pour les droits de la personne ainsi que de nombreux Centres PEN dans le monde, incluant le Centre belge néerlandais.
