Liu Xiaobo in Beijing

Photograph of Liu Xiaobo, co-founder and president of the Independent Chinese Centre (2003-07) and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2010, addressing the audience at an awards ceremony that was held in Beijing on 30 September 2004. In 2008 Xiaobo was arrested and incarcerated as a political prisoner in Jinzhou Prison in Liaoning, where he spent the last eight years of his life. Xiaobo’s case was supported and campaigned for by PEN International alongside numerous global PEN Centres and other human rights organisations.

Liu Xiaobo en Pekín
