Launching the Donostia Protocol

Photograph of the organising committee at the launch of the Donostia Protocol to Ensure Language Rights – a tool developed by organisations including PEN International, Linguapax, the European Language Equality Network (ELEN), CIEMEN, and the European Centre for Minority Issues, to protect minority languages. The Donostia Protocol was presented to the public at a summit held at the Kursaal Kongresu Jauregia in Donostia-San Sebastián on 17 December 2016. On this day it was signed by representatives from more than one hundred organisations representing approximately twenty-six languages. The committee from PEN International comprised Carles Torner, executive director of PEN International (2014-20) and chair of the Translation and Linguistic Rights Committee (1996-2002), and Simona Škrabec, chair of the Translation and Linguistic Rights Committee (2014-20), who can be seen standing third and second from the right respectively.
