Pencil drawing of a man by Dolma Kyab (pen-name Lobsang Kelsang Gyatso), completed whilst he was imprisoned in Chushur Prison in northern Lhasa. Kyab, a Tibetan writer and teacher who wrote a manuscript titled Sao dong de Ximalayashan (Restless Himalayas), was detained on 5 March 2005 and tried in secret on 30 November 2005 on accusations of “endangering state security” under Chinese law. During his ten-and-a-half year sentence Kyab worked on improving his skills in Tibetan and English and also took on a serious interest in art, completing a series of noteworthy drawings.
