Photograph of Dorothea Mackellar dressed as one of the Graces for Mrs T. H. Kelly’s Italian Red Cross Day tableaux at the Palace Theatre, 20 June 1918. This photograph was taken by Glen Broughton and is held at the State Library of New South Wales. Mackellar, along with Ethel Turner and Mary Gilmore, founded the Sydney Centre in 1931. Despite her “loathing all restrictions and meetings”, Mackellar became honorary treasurer of the Bush Book Club of New South Wales, and was an active member of the Sydney Centre.
