Appeal from the Nicaraguan Centre

Video of Nicaraguan Centre members delivering an appeal for support in Managua on 18 June 2018. In this video members from the Nicaraguan Centre address fellow PEN members across the globe, speaking out about the political turmoil that has been affecting freedom of speech in Nicaragua since 18 April 2018, when a student rebellion against social secuity reforms began to be violently repressed. Those members speaking and sitting at the front of the table from left to right are: Ángela Saballos, general secretary of the Nicaraguan Centre (2017-); Gioconda Belli, president of the Nicaraguan Centre (2013-); and Juan Carlos Vílchez, vice-president of the Nicaraguan Centre (2017-).
