1st Palestinian international poetry festival

Two photographs of writers and PEN members gathered for the 1st Nordic-Palestinian Poetry Festival, which took place on 23-25 September 1994 in Jerusalem, Jericho, and Gaza City. This event, which promoted Palestinian literature, drew together poets and writers from countries including Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark, and was titled Literature and Identity. The photograph above shows a panel at the opening ceremony in Jerusalem. Among them are: Sakher Habash (also known as Abu Nizar), second from the left, founding member of Fatah; Hanan Awwad, third from the right, president of the Palestinian Centre (1992-); and Yahya Yakhlif, second from the right, Minister of Culture of the Palestinian National Authority (2003-06). The photograph below shows Awaad, on the right, looking on as an attendee of the festival speaks into the microphone. The Norwegian newspaper editor and politician Birgit Wiig can be seen to the left of the speaker.

Dos fotografías de escritores y miembros de PEN reunidos en el 1er Festival de Poesía Nórdica-Palestina, que tuvo lugar del 23 al 25 de septiembre de 1994 en Jerusalén, Jericó y ciudad de Gaza. El evento, que promovió la literatura palestina, juntó poetas y escritores de países como Noruega, Suecia, Finlandia y Dinamarca, y se tituló Literature and Identity. La fotografía de la parte superior muestra la ceremonia inaugural en Jerusalén. Entre ellos: Sakher Habash (también conocido como Abu Nizar), segundo empezando por la izquierda, miembro fundador de Fatah; Hanan Awwad, tercera empezando por la derecha, presidenta del Centro Palestino (1992-); y Yahya Yakhlif, segundo empezando por la derecha, ministro de Cultura de la Autoridad Nacional Palestina (2003-06).
